CONFERENCE: The Sustainable Standard in Demolition

Join Rye Group’s Ben Griffiths and Jonathan Cox in the NFDC Conference Theatre at Demo Expo 2021 on 15th September at 11.50am where they’ll be talking about the Sustainable Standard in demolition…

The Sustainable Standard in Demolition
Demolition does not always have the best reputation to the wider world. For developers it stands in the way of them achieving their end goal and incurs them extra costs, while presenting a risk to their reputation if issues arise.

To the general public, major demolition projects in their area can be disruptive and noisy, creating dust, road diversions and additional traffic. If a redevelopment is controversial, the demolition phase can also cause consternation amongst local residents.

Yet, in the majority of cases the perceptions are not fair.

At Rye we have established the philosophy of The Sustainable Standard to demonstrate the positive nature of how we, as an organisation, operate and to raise the positive profile of the demolition industry as a whole.

In this session Ben and Jonathan will take you through an outline of the framework, the type of initiatives being worked on and share their hopes for how the industry can work together to challenge these unfounded perceptions.

You will leave the session with some ideas to consider and discuss about internally and with your industry colleagues about how we can work together to maintain and develop industry standards and build and protect the reputation of demolition with clients and the general public.

Ben spent 10 years serving in the British Army before transitioning careers to work with Barratt Homes. Ben joined Rye Group at the beginning of 2021, taking responsibility for driving the business’ agenda in health, safety, environmental and quality. Ben works across the business and brings additional rigour and focus ensuring we strive for continual improvement and compliance across the organisation.

Ben lives in Bedfordshire with his fiancé and two children Ewan and Belle. He is currently renovating his house and so, between that and having two young children is tied up most evenings and weekends without much time for fun.

He is focused on, not only building Rye’s profile, but also working with the NFDC, NDTG and other organisations within the industry to help build the reputation and positive perception of the industry as a whole.

Jonathan lives in Hertfordshire with his fiancé and dog. When he’s not working on marketing, Jonathan is to be found playing tennis or golf, cycling or snowboarding.
